Yesterday was blues guitar great Johnny Winter's birthday. He rocked the blues from the time he was a grade-schooler playing with his father right up until his passing in 2014 while on tour. He played the blues until the day he died which is exactly what he sad he would do.
Johnny Winter was the 1st blues virtuoso to break thru to a mass audience in the US signing what at the time was the biggest recording contract advance ($600K) and playing to arena crowds. He honored the blues greats like Muddy Water like no other, producing (3 ) Grammy winning albums for muddy.
Johnny Winter, "had the dirt" and played some of the heaviest riffs ever heard combining picking and slide guitar effortlessly. His gravely blues voice over those riffs still bring chills to all of us here. "Still Alive and Well!, Johnny" We miss you...
