Looking back at this time 15 years ago. We had just completed the original Starman prototype and the band wanted to see the live casting. We normally can communicate via pictures or video, but RUSH wanted to see their iconic Starman live before production. The band was on the Snakes and Arrows Tour so we traveled with the original casting to the Washington DC area. It was a steamy day in the swamps of Northern VA. And were backstage ready to show off the work. At the last minute, the Showtech manager came to us to say things were running behind and it was too close to showtime for the guys to come to where we were set up. So the one-of-a-kind original casting had to travel to Geddy, Neil and Alex in their dressing rooms. Hit the Stress Meter! It was like seeing one of your kids go to college. We begged management to handle with care…and they did. The statue was approved, but Geddy suggested a change. The original paint job used the red/orange shading like on the back of the 2112 album cover. Geddy saw it and said, “they are doing too much here…should be Silver Surfer!” And so, this pic represents the final prototype with Geddy’s change. We were hesitant at first, but when we completed this treatment, we could do nothing but agree. Good call Geddy!
