Boogie Rock - Underrated to This Day

on

Just saw some studio footage of Grand Funk Railroad in the studio making the Multi-Platinum "We're an American Band" album and it struck me how underrated the "Boogie Rock" bands are today. You know Mark Farner, Don Brewer and Mel Schacher SOLD OUT Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles for their 1971 concert. In a live setting, there's no greater music than a set from bands like Foghat or ZZ Top. Even going further back to Bachman-Turner-Overdrive, drop the needle on the "Not Fragile" track. It's still so heavy, but in that era...forgeddaboudit! While labels fractured this music further with the "southern rock" label ect, it was still about great live music that made you want to stomp your feat. Even Angus Young described the early AC/DC days as being a "dance band." Angus has said, "if people didn't dance, they didn't drink beer, and if they didn't drink beer, you didn't get invited back to play at that place." It's that simple.

Check out some of these great Boogie Rock Bands today like ...Black Oak Arkansas, Brownsville Station, Humble Pie and Montrose with the great Ronnie Montrose. Yuh here us Sammy Hagar?
