The label art is in the classic Sabbath purple with a graphic treatment of a classic band photo of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. This is from the Paranoid album era when things really began to change for the band with radio play of the single Paranoid.

KnuckleBonz punches a “Hole in the Sky” w/ new Black Sabbath Statue Set

KnuckleBonz punches a “Hole in the Sky” w/ new Black Sabbath Statue Set.

Such and exciting day here at KnuckleBonz as we roll out our Black Sabbath Rock Iconz Ltd. Edition Statue Set.  We have hand-cast and detailed the entire original band from circa 1975.

When we put the first castings of the Sabbath statues on our lighted stage for the promo video shoot last week, we all got chills. Looking thru the preview monitor if was like watching Black Sabbath live in 1975 on Don Kirshers’s Rock Concert. If you were there for that era of rock music, you had to tune in to  ABC “In Concert” or Don Kirshner’s “Rock Concert” for the chance to see anything live other than going to a show.

The entire original Black Sabbath lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward have all been hand cast and detailed in the KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz style. Each statue stands approximately 9 inches tall. All ship in their own color packing in early 2023.

“Due to the sheer magnitude and importance of Black Sabbath, these figures will only be sold together as a complete set.”

Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath Star Crossed on Sept 18th, 1970

September 18th 1970 is a one of the most star-crossed days in rock music history. On this day, the original wave of guitar heroes crashed with the death of Jimi Hendrix; although many would argue Hendrix was a tsunami on his own. Sept 18th 1970 also marked the advent of what we now know as “metal” with the release of the seminal Black Sabbath record Paranoid.

By all accounts, Jimi Hendrix was at a transitional point in 1970, living in London with some sincere doubt about the recording industry and where he wanted to take his career. While there have always been questions and doubts, there has never been any information to say Jimi’s death was anything but a tragic mistake with sleep medication.

We recognize Paranoid was the 2nd record for “Brummies” Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, but the tracks on the record speak for themselves. After this release, Sabbath shifted gears and begin to tour worldwide as a headliner, and enjoying their only real radio play from that era with the single Paranoid. Drop the needle on that record now, it immediately transports you to an amazing time in music, but it also holds up so well. Any band would give body parts to have their name on that album today.

We currently have 2 different KnuckleBonz Jimi Hendrix Ltd. Editions Statues that are still available to our website. Check out Hendrix from the Hear That Train a Comin’ and Woodstock eras here.

Later this fall we will announce our 1st ever Black Sabbath KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz Statue set taking you back to circa 1975. Stay tuned here on official socials media for pre-sale information.

Black Sabbath Master of Reality on this day 1971

Can still remember getting this record and taking it to Catholic School. We were allowed to play our own records at break time. Obviously, they did not bother listening to the lyrics LoL.

Master of Reality is the third studio for Black Sabbath. It’s said this is somehow the foundation for Doom or stoner metal, but don’t get that. What was the debut album and Paranoid?

Drop the needle on Into the Void today. That might be our “dessert island” track. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward were really coming into their own here.

Birthday Wishes to Rock Iconz Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath

Terence “Geezer” Butler was born July 17, 1949, in Birmingham, England. Not only a stand alone amazing musician that was one of the founders of what we now call  Metal, but an elite song writer/lyricist that in our opinion is under-rated . The name “Black Sabbath” and all the dark story telling  themes of the band can be traced directly to the mind of Geezer Butler.

As a teen Geezer formed his first band, Rare Breed, with schoolmate John “Ozzy” Osbourne; in the fall of 1968, the two reunited in the blues quartet Polka Tulk, which also featured guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward. After briefly re-christening themselves Earth, the foursome adopted the Black Sabbath name in early 1969, at Geezer’s suggestion. While Black Sabbath’s  1970 debut laid the foundations for their deafening, sludgy hard rock attack, the follow-up Paranoid was their creative and commercial breakthrough, selling four-million copies in the U.S. alone on the strength of fan favorites like “War Pigs,” “Iron Man,” and the title track; though Osbourne was the band’s focal point, Geezer wrote the songs’ lyrics, drawing heavily upon his fascination with the black arts to explore recurring themes of death and destruction. During the latter half of the 1970s, Black Sabbath’s popularity dwindled, and in 1979 Geezer briefly left the band; his return to the lineup coincided with Osbourne’s departure, although the group continued on with new front man Ronnie James Dio. Geezer again exited in mid-1984, forming the Geezer Butler Band before reuniting with Osbourne in 1987. Geezer re-joined Sabbath for 1992’s Dehumanizer, but again quit the group two years later; after another fling with Osbourne, he formed G/Z/R, issuing Plastic Planet in 1995. The solo Black Science followed in 1997, and Ohmwork in 2005. It was around 1997 that Geezer returned again to Black Sabbath, for the Ozzfest 97 tour, and has been involved with Black Sabbath since this point on various Ozzfest tours through till “The End” in 2016.  Geezer continues in the new band Deadland Ritual starting in 2019.

Remembering – KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz – Ronnie James DIO

Hard to believe we lost Ronnie James DIO over a decade ago. Remembering DIO on what would have been his 80th birthday.

Ronald James Padavona “DIO”, is one of the most versatile and powerful singers in music history.  His range, stage presence and ability to deliver a line was un-paralleled. RJD burst on the worldwide stage as a member of Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow creating amazing debut and sophomore efforts before being tapped to replace Ozzy Osbourne after his exit from Black Sabbath. We can remember really wanting to “not like” Heaven and Hell, but Ronnie’s amazing voice with a re-energized Sabbath line-up made it impossible. DIO went on to massive solo success creating one of the finest  heavy metal records of all time, Holy Diver.

We were fortunate to work with Ronnie’s estate to create (2) KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz Ltd. Edition statues. Both have been long since sold out. You can occasionally find then on the secondary markets with a hefty price tag which is common for most all our SOLD OUT products.

Rock in Peace RJD !

KnuckleBonz – Black Sabbath “Pilgrimage to Mapledurham Mill”

A must on the KnuckleBonz travel list is a pilgrimage to the Mapledurham Mill and Estate  in Oxfordshire, England. Black Sabbath SuperFans will know this is the site of the original album cover photo shoot by photographer Keith “Keef” Macmillan for the debut album released in February of 1970. The young model, Louisa Livingstone, had no idea her image was about to become the corner stone of heavy metal as she posed in various shots in the black robe and green face makeup for Black Sabbath. The haunting image of the Mapledurham Mill, which dates back to the to the 12th century, still brings chills and memories of the initial thunder clap of the album title track Black Sabbath. Even crazier is this record went to catholic grade school with us in the early 70s and was played as part of recreation time. We were allowed to bring our own music and play on the library record player. Not a single Nun or teacher at the Holy Spirit Elementary ever raised an eyebrow…classic. Very progressive for the church of Rome to be sure.

Take a second and visit the official website of the Mapledurham Estate here. The mill is still operational, the last commercially working watermill on the River Thames, and the property is wonderfully maintained. Maybe put on Ozzy, Iommi, Geezer and Bill Ward’s Sleeping Village from the debut album to set the mood. You will be transported to another place…
