The MISFITS – The Rare band we all agree on..

From the advent of the music industry, the bands we listen to and revere  defined us in our formative years. We paired off into groups that gravitated to musical genres. Pop music always had the largest following with fans that may or may not be passionate. As you descend into other genres, fandom becomes more intense and vital to who you were, and are. Punk and Metal would most often square off and choose sides with an occasional cross over. However, there are a few bands that transcend musical genres, and even pop culture. Such is the case with The Misfits. From humble beginnings in Lodi NJ, Jerry Only and all the various lineups have had something for all. From original singer Glen Danzig, thru the more metal releases with Michale Graves, the following of the band has been among the most loyal in music. The formation of The Misfits established the Horror/Core/Punks, but heavy metal too really dug things right off. Cliff Burton of Metallica flew the Misfits flag on-stage with the  Fiend skull tee-shirt on stage at Day at The Green, Oakland 1985. His arm was also tatted with The Fiend. With the flick of the wrist the band can re-unite today and sell out arenas anywhere in the world. They are a rarity…something all camps enjoy and agree on as cool and important.

Yesterday marked the anniversary of the 1st Full length Misfits album release, “Walk Among Us.” Album “American Psycho” and the “Dig Up Here Bones” track is still a fav here at KnuckleBonz. Relive or discover some Misfits today…

29 Years Since Pantera’s “Vulgar Display of Power” – 3D Vinyl Sale Today ONLY!

29 Years since the Pantera “Vulgar Display of Power” Release – 3D Vinyl Sale Today ONLY !

Hard to believe it’s been 29 years since Pantera dropped “Vulgar Display of Power” on us. We remember the heavy metal scene struggling with it’s identity at that time, with some of the heavier bands embracing the grunge or “alternative” brands. The Cowboys from Hell where having none of that and were flying the metal and power groove flags high. From the opening riff on “Mouth of War” to the heavy flow of the final track “Hollow”, this record was an instant classic.  A perfect record, that has happened only a few times in hard rock/heavy metal history. The amazing musicianship of Phillip Anslemo, Rex Brown,  Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott was on full display.  But, the meaning of these songs went further than many metal tracks. It hard to imagine how relevant some lyrical lines would still be today “Be Yourself, By Yourself, Stay Away from Me!” Can the world today be summed up any better?

The KnuckleBonz® 3D Vinyl® Limited Edition Statue for Pantera Vulgar Display of Power is available now and on SALE today only to mark the 29th anniversary of the release.

Led Zeppelin “Physical Grafitti” Anniversary “Heaviest Zepp Ever?”

On this day in 1975 Led Zeppelin released their 6th studio album “Physical Graffiti “. The term studio is used loosely here because the album was primarily recorded at the Heady Grange county estate in Hampshire England. This is significant because the allowed the band ample time to improvise arrangements which fuels this masterpiece. Some of the heaviest Led Zeppelin to date was on the recording. The John Bonham’s drum open and Jimmy Page’s riff on “The River” are heavy bloody metal at it’s purest. Physical Graffiti also includes “Kashmir” showing off the diversity the band had in this era.

Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti

Side 1

  1. “Custard Pie”
  2. “The Rover”

Side 2

  1. “Houses of the Holy”
  2. “Trampled Under Foot”
  3. “Kashmir”

Side 3

  1. “In the Light” (Jones, Page, Plant
  2. “Bron-Yr-Aur”
  3. “Down by the Seaside”
  4. “Ten Years Gone”

Side 4

  1. “Night Flight”
  2. “The Wanton Song”
  3. “Boogie with Stu”
  4. “Black Country Woman”
  5. “Sick Again”

Included here is a clip of “The Rover” live from Seattle in 1977. Jimmy Page is wearing the icon “Poppy Suit” that was the subject of our 2007 Rock Iconz Limited Edition statue of Jimmy. We were fortunate to work directly with Jimmy Page on this design…still a fav for us here at the KnuckleBonz studio.

Rock Iconz Johnny Winter – “He Had the Dirt”

Yesterday was blues guitar great Johnny Winter’s birthday. He rocked the blues from the time he was a grade-schooler playing with his father right up until his passing in 2014 while on tour. He played the blues until the day he died which is exactly what he sad he would do. Johnny Winter was the 1st blues virtuoso to break thru to a mass audience in the US signing what at the time was the biggest recoding contact advance ($600K) and playing to arena crowds. He honored the blues greats like Muddy Water like no other, producing (3 ) Grammy winning albums for muddy. Johnny Winter, “had the dirt” and played some of the heaviest riffs ever heard combining picking and slide guitar effortlessly. His gravely blues voice over those riffs still bring chills to all of us here.  “Still Alive and Well!, Johnny” We miss you…

Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir “Must See TV” Polish Guitar Virtuoso Marcin

Got wind of this “cover” of Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir by Polish Guitar Virtuoso Marcin while listening to Sirius MX Radio Ozzy’s Boneyard Channel from Keith Roth this AM while on the way into the KnuckleBOnz Studio.  He briefly described this acoustic this cover of the Physical Graffiti masterpiece, saying the both Paul Stanley of KISS and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audio Slave had given props. However, this gives no hint and how amazing this video clip really is. We’ve provided a link to check out guitarist Marcin Patrzalek from his Instgram feed. The 20 year old runs through Jimmy Page’s chord progression with tapping while simultaneously knocking out John Bonham’s percussion banging on the body of the acoustic guitar, complete with rim shots! It’s effortless and you can see Marcin is not just playing, he’s feeling this Led Zeppelin classic. Makes us feel good at KnuckleBonz that Rock is alive and well…Keep it up Marcin, we might be creating you for the Rock Iconz® Series before too long.

KISS “Debut” Album Dropped on this Day 1974 – “Album Covers, The #1 Marketing Tool in Music”

Provided you are of the age to remember “Release Tuesdays” and buying music 1st on Vinyl, you will recall how many albums you bought because the cover art was cool or spoke to you somehow. Such was the case of the KISS “Debut” album for sure. The iconic make-up for Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss was really starting to take shape and become what we know today as The Demon, The Starchild, The Starman and Catman today. This early in “KISSstory,” for sure there was almost no radio airplay. So, heavier music needed to be found based on word of mouth, a live show, or via the great print magazines of the day like CREEM, Circus and Hit Parader. However, the favorite method for us here at KnuckleBonz, Inc was a trip to the local record store or head shop. Can still remember the KISS debut record sitting at the front of a bin and the end of the store aisle. The store was dim , but what there was  highlighted Ace’s face in the upper right of the cover…will never forget it.  The KISS Debut album was a no-brainer to bring to our 3D Vinyl® Limited Edition Collector Series. This officially licensed ltd. edition statue is on sale now here at https://knucklebonz.com/product-category/kiss/

Nice to see a metal band moving through this really f#cked up time without missing stride. The new video boats great production value, with cool live shots of the band and  storytelling. Conjured feelings of what felt like long ago when seeing new music in the video format was how it was done…””music” TV actually ran music videos.
