Pink Floyd Projection Screen – Rock Iconz On Tour Series – Production Notes

If you are paying attention, you will see we have announced the newest piece for our Rock Iconz On Tour® Collectible Series. From the stage of the PInk Floyd, we have created the projection screen used in live shows dating back to 1972. This design had several details that needed to be solved to be able to produce a hand cast limited edition statue. The 1st issue to tackle was cost. We always to to keep the price consistent in our Rock Iconz®, 3D Vinyl® and On Tour Series. To tool and cast the truss that supports the screen in metal was going to costs a kings ransom and simply was not an option for a short run 500 piece limited edition. That’s right, our Division Bell Projection Screen edition number is only 500. No FoMO… So we had to figure our a way to simulate the truss with some other materials. We decided to sculpt the truss shapes then cast the entire part in clear resign. That would allow us to paint the truss metal structure leaving the rest as a polished clear surface. That allowed us to solve our cost and design issues. A byproduct of this is that though this ON Tour Collectible from the Division Bell era of Pink Floyd has no working lights, the clear resign does catch the light in interesting ways and makes for spectacular display. The live shot from the KnuckleBonz studio in the blog here has a single light behind the truss to make the edges glow…really fun to shoot this for the product launch.

The limited edition pages are live now and you can pre-order the Division Bell Pink Floyd Projection Screen now.

We has also created the Pink FLoyd Pig for the Rock Iconz On Tour Series as well as Wish You Were Here for 3D Vinyl. Check those limited editions out here.

I found a cool video on Youtube today that has some hi-res of the videos played on the screen in 1994 from the Pink Floyd Vision Bell tour…check them out here:

3D Vinyl Bundles with Vinyl LPs – Coming Soon (KISS and Pink Floyd)

If you have been following along this spring you will have noticed KnuckleBonz® has added the ability to buy your favorite Vinyl LPs at https://knucklebonz.com/product-category/vinyl-records/. It’s a select offering to start, focusing on the artists we have created for our Rock Iconz®, 3D Vinyl® and ON Tour Collector Series over the past 18 years.

To celebrate this new category at KnuckleBonz.com ,  will  soon be offering special bundles for bands that have been released in our 3D Vinyl Limited Edition Statue Series. The bundles will include the actual Vinyl LP that was the inspiration for our 3D Vinyl statue design. Up first will be KISS Destroyer and Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here

KISS Destroyer Resurrected was released in 1976, and many KISS fans believe this is the high water mark for the band’s studio recordings. This classic KISS album is revisited and resurrected on 180g virgin vinyl by original producer extraordinaire Bob Ezrin. The album also features the amazing painting by the master Ken Kelly of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in the amzing stage costumes from this era. “staytuned here and via our email list for details…check out KISS Destroyer 3D Vinyl Here: KISS Destroyer 3D Vinyl Limited Edition Statue

Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here 3D Vinyl will also be offered as a special bundle with this 1975 release. The 3D Vinyl design pulls from the inner sleeve design by Storm Thorgerson of the robotic hand shake. At this point, Pink Floyd is in the vacuum created by the once in a lifetime release of Dark Side of the Moon and all of the success and fame that followed. Wish You Were Here’s title track as well as Shine on You Crazy Diamond is a tribute to founding member Syd Barrett which by this time is firmly in the grips of mental illness. It also touched on the alienation and disillusionment with the music business experienced by David Gilmour and Rogers Waters via “Have a Cigar” and “Welcome to the Machine.” Check out Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here 3D Vinyl Here: Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here 3d Vinyl Limited Edition Statue

The Pink Floyd Exhibition Coming to LA – KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz “On Tour” for Sure!

Pink Floyd Exhibition

The Pink Floyd Exhibition Coming to LA – KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz “On Tour” for Sure!

The Pink Floyd Exhibition that originally debuted in London in coming to LA to the Vogue Multicultural Museum. The exhibition was curated by the band David Glimour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason and Aubrey Powell, the Hypnosis  co-founder. He and designer Storm Thorgerson and collaborated on many Pink Floyd album art concepts and designs.

Many things from all the Pink Floyd eras that you would expect to see will be on display, like a myriad of music instruments, or the Pink Floyd Pig. But, some you might now expect. If the LA version of the museum mirrors the UK, you will see the cane that Roger Water got his licks from in his school boy days with Syd Barrett. This was a direct influence to the Teacher character from Pink Floyd The Wall.

We are personally looking forward to seeing the Division Bell heads in all there metallic glory inside the exhibit along with lyric sheets from Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd Animals and many others.

This will be a hot ticket with Covid restrictions still in place…check the https://www.vmmla.com website for ticket sales information.

You might even see a KnuckleBonz Collectible or 2 while you are there…

Here’s a good overview video from the Pink Floyd Exhibition in London.

Pink Floyd Live Mirror Ball “Wish You Were There”

As far back as 1975, Pink Floyd began a live tradition of their completely uniquely take on the “Mirror Ball”. The circular projection screen was in place, and to add to the live light show effects, the flower themed mirror ball was introduced. This is so Pink Floyd. It took on several forms all the way to the amazing live spectacle in 1994 for the Pink Floyd stadium tour in 1994 in support of the album “Division Bell.” The Floyd line up was David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. The Floyd acrimony with Roger Waters was at it’s zenith.

Check out these live shots of this legendary “On Tour” live stage props. These still still shots are from the 1975  Wish You Were Hear,  1977 Animals and 1994 tours.

This live video of from 1994 Division Bell Tour. The Huge mirror ball morphed into a flower bloom during the performance of Comfortably Numb. Enjoy…”Wish You Were There”

Music You Can “See” – The Great Album Cover Artists and Designers of Rock

Not all heroes in the the KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz®, 3D Vinyl® and On Tour™ and On Tour Series played an instrument. The paint brush and camera lens also made music for all of us when wielded  by the great album cover artist and designers.

Before the digital age of music, Album and Poster art was and essential part of the music Superfan experience.  It the same flag many of us still fly today on the art we have in the house or the clothes we wear. Can you imagine  Pink Floyd’s legacy with the designs of Storm Thorgerson? The “Dark Side of the Moon” Prism, all of the “Wish You Were Here” “Hand Shakes” the “Delicate Sound of Thunder” “Lightbulb Man.” Aubrey Powell founded the great Hypgnosis (In Collaboration w/ Storm Thorgerson) and gave us classic Led Zeppelin cover art from “Houses of the Holy” and .  Could we ever  separate Pink Floyd “The Wall” from the illustrator and cartoonist Gerald Scarfe? We think not. So many of the great bands we love are so closely tied to the great artists that were associated with their album releases. Roger Dean defined the band “Yes” with unbelievable illustration and graphic design that almost let you here the albums before you dropped the needle. Many of us discovered the fantasy art master Frank Frazetta, from the album art of Molly Hatchet before we ever heard of “Conan the Barbarian” The list goes on. Can you imagine Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow without the “Rainbow Raising” cover painting of Ken Kelly? Oh yes, what we owe the KISS Destroyer cover to him as well…

For us, these images are as  as important as the music that plays when you drop the needle. It’s an essential part of why we are in our 18th year here at KnuckleBonz.
