AC/DC Powerage Album – The Most Underrated ?

Released in 1978, AC/DC Powerage was a “jagged edged gem,” but underrated in many years. This was the 5th studio album from the band, and the first to feature bass player Cliff Williams who would also add backing vocals. During the recording in 1977, the AC/DC w/ Bon Scott was really coming into their own. Tracks like Riff Raff, Sin City and Down Payment Blues told you all you needed to know about the band. Not a better combo of speed and raw energy, founded in the blues, existed at this time.

Powerage did perform slightly better than the previous AC/DC Let Their Be Rock, reaching #133 on the Billboard Charts.  The practice of multiple releases for different US markets was still in use with the Australian, UK and USA releases all having alternate mixes and album art.

Perhaps the best case that this is the most underrated album comes from the pinions of rock royalty, Eddie Van Halen and Keith Richards have both stated this was their favorite AC/DC record.  But the most ringing indorsement comes directly from the AC/DC camp. The album remained a favorite of AC/DC co-founder Malcolm Young, who was quoted in AC/DC: Maximum Rock & Roll saying, “I know a lot of people respect it. A lot of real rock and roll AC/DC fans, the real pure rock and roll guys. I think that’s the most under-rated album of them all.

The AC/DC cover art we know best features the mighty Angus Young with photo effects to make it look like he is being electrocuted. Very coo, for the pre Photoshop era where all effects were film-based. Also totally in step w/ the bands early imagery. This is a KnuckleBonz 3D Vinyl® design we have been working at on and off for about 2 years. The band has approved the design and we will be rolling that out to you for a limited edition on only 1978. This is in the 3D Vinyl format that sets the limited edition number to match the year the album was releases.

We also have a very small inventory of our Bon Scott Rock Iconz Ltd. Edition Statue here.

RIP AC/DC’s Malcolm Young – A member of the KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz Series Since 2007

On this day we lost Malcolm Young, described as the driving force of AC/DC. Although younger brother Angus Young was always the face and the focus of the band in the music press, Malcolm was that “right boot,” kicking the band in the rear every night to deliver their brand of hard rock that has never waivers to this day.

Our original licensing deal back in 2007 saw release Angus and Malcom Young in sperate limited edition statues. Long since SOLD OUT, those AC/DC statues are some of the most sought after in the 19 years of KnuckleBonz.

You can see the ACDC current KnuckleBonz collectibles here

Rock in Peace Malcolm, we miss year every time we drop the need on AC/DC.

AC/DC For Those About to Rock Anniversary…The Cannons Fire !!!!

This month marks the anniversary of AC/DC For Those About to Rock album release in 1981. Imagine having to follow up Back in Black with a new studio recording. No place to go but down right? AC/DC’s 8th studio release did nothing but go to #1 in the USA and receive rave critical reviews. Gone on ya’ Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Phil Rudd, Cliff Williams and Brian Johnson!

The For Those About to Rock world tour added new stage craft with the addition of the AC/DC Cannon. The band closed the set by firing an entire back line of prop cannons that hammered AC/DC Superfans with pulverizing site and sound. The Cannon has been a staple for AC/DC live ever since. We created the Rock Iconz®  On Tour™ Limited Edition Statue to celebrate this iconic piece of stage-dress. The Knucklebonz blog photo shows the Cannon atop amps just like the AC/DC lives shows. Each statue is hand cast and detailed with a hand numbered certificate on the statue top. We have new inventory arriving soon, reserve your AC/DC Rock Iconz On Tour Cannon here.

April 1st – A Bitter Sweet Day in AC/DC History

April 1st is a bitter sweet day in AC/DC history and it has nothing to do with April Fools. It’s the day the band officially announced Brian Johnson as their new singer to replace Bon Scott after his tragic passing.

Brian may have been somehow destined for the AC/DC gig by Bon Scott himself. Before joining AC/DC, Bon was with his Aussie group, “Fang” doing a “Hail Mary” tour in the UK. This was a last chance for this struggling outfit and they opened for a moderately successful glam-rock group called “Geordie.” The singer was none other than Brian Johnson. Brian was actually sick during their set with a stomach ailment that had him drop to his side in pain during a couple numbers. Bon thought it was part of the performance and mentioned it to Angus Young and Malcolm Young some time later.  That mention got Brian on the audition list when AC/DC has decided to carry on and look for a replacement for Bon. The rest we now know is history.  AC/DC “Back in Black” was released later than year in July and the band was on their mega-stadium headliner trajectory that continues to this day.

Pictured in our blog is Angus Young atop Brian’s shoulders from circa 1980 in our AC/DC Rock Iconz Limited Edition Statue design. Urban legend is that Bon was inspired to do this during the AC/DC shows because of seeing Brian pull this off in the Geordie live show. Brian would have to weigh in on what’s the real story there. The statue is in full production and tracking toward a Fall 2021 ship date.
