Heavy Metal Happy Birthday James Hetfield of Metallica

A Heavy Metal Happy Birthday James Hetfield of Metallica…

Vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield is the undisputed riff-lord of modern hard rock and heavy metal. Born on August 3, 1963 in Downey, California, Hetfield is also recognized as the king of downpicking and revered as one of the most charismatic front men in music, with a unique style and the ability to roar the likes of “Battery,” sing hits like “Nothing Else Matters,” and connect effortlessly with audiences via his personal, heartfelt, and humorous stage-banter.

Born in Los Angeles during 1981, but bred and nurtured in California’s Bay Area, Metallica (James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo) rewrote the heavy metal and hard rock playbooks, in the process becoming a worldwide musical phenomenon. With millions of album sales and streams in addition to thousands of sold-out venues around the globe, Metallica’s music has spanned the cult-classic prototype thrash of their 1983 debut album, Kill ‘Em All, to their wildly accessible hard rock classic, 1991’s The Black Album. Now approaching 40 years as a band, the guys continue to be one of the top touring acts in the world, with over two million fans attending the 150+ shows on their recent WorldWired tour.

Now shipping is our 1st ever Metallica Rock Iconz® Limited Edition Statues for Metallica. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo sold seperately or as a set

AC/DC Highway to Hell and Back In Black – What a Difference a Year Makes.

AC/DC released (2) of the greatest hard rock albums of all time almost (1) year apart to the day. Highway to Hell was released on June 27th 1979. This record brought the band to International fame on the strength of all the great songs and increased FM Radio play with the title track “Highways to Hell.” This was also the final record with leader singer and frontman Bon Scott. After Bon’s untimely passing, the band would release the multi-platinum “Back in Black” with new signer Brian Johnson on July 25th 1980. WHat a difference a year can make…Back in Black would properl the band to arena and festival headliners. AC/DC has never looked back and continues to record and tour at the highest levels.

Check out all the KnuckleBonz® collectibles for both AC/DC Angus Young and Bon Scott. Our latest design of Angus Young atop Brian Johnson’s shoulders is one of the most elaborate Rock Iconz® designs in our 18 year history. You can pre-order Angus and Brian Rock Iconz here.

Randy Rhoads White Jackson On the Way to The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Randy Rhoads white Jackson Guitar is now on the way to honor him ahead of his induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this fall. The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place October 30th in Cleveland.

We recently spoke with Kathy Rhoads Dargenzio, Randy’s sister and head of the Randy Rhoads Trust along with Randy’s brother Kelle Rhoads.  We takled about Randy and how happy the family was with our new Randy Rhoads Rock Iconz Statue. During that call she told us one of Randy’s axes would be going to the hall, but they were still going back on forth on which to send. Glad they picked the White Jackson. We think it’s the most striking of Randy’s guitars he played on-stage.

Our 1st project when we founded KnuckleBonz 18 years ago was Randy Rhoads with his white Jackson from the Diary of a Madman era of Ozzy Osbourne. The great folks at Fender/Jackson actually sent us one of the reproductions they had done to help us nail as many details as possible. That was great, with only one problem. When we were getting down to final approvals and production, one of the head guys in the custom shop at Fender called to tell us the guitar we had not an exact match to Randy Rhoad’s original. The big difference was the body. Randy’s White Jackson has a wider body and slightly different shape that the more sleek reproduction. So…that part of the sculpt was a complete re-do….it happens.

The shot in the Blog here is one of the most coveted in the KnuckleBonz studio. It’s from a sound check taken by the great Neil Zlozower. Neil has helped us with photo research over the many years. He was kind enough to sign this print from his original negative…so cool.

Our Randy Rhoads 3 Rock Iconz Statue is super hot and now on Back-Order on it’s way to a SELL OUT. Order Randy Rhoads Rock Iconz Here…No FoMO!

You can always check out all the great KnuckleBonz Collectibles Here….we have our own Hall of Fame going every day!

42 Years of KISS Dynasty

Yesterday marked 42 years since the release of the KISS Dynasty record. While it not apparent to the KISS Army at the time, the original KISS lineup was only a short time away from it’s end. Peter Criss did not actually play on the album due to a combination of injuries to his hands from car accident and struggles with substance abuse. Anton Fig was called in to keep time as he had already worked with Ace on some of his solo efforts. The album did have radio success with “I Was Made for Lovin You“. It actually peaked at #11 on the US Billboard charts. But, perhaps the most lasting part of the Dynasty era are the amazing costumed. They were more elaborate than ever with Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter dawning capes with signature colors for each member. The KISS predominantly black and silver schemes were replaced by Red for The Demon, Hot Pink for The Starchild, Blue for SpaceAce and Green for The Catman. The photos and videos from this era are amazing.

KnuckleBonz has expended our license with KISS through 2023 with the band and we are hard at work on a new set of Rock Iconz.

Here’s a collectors list of the things we have created with KISS: KnuckleBonz and KISS

  • KISS Alive II Rock Iconz (Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss) * These were essentially the Love Gun costumes w/ some minor tweaks)
  • KISS Alive 1975 Rock Iconz (Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss) * From the costumes fro that era 1975)
  • KISS Rock Iconz Hotter Than Hell (Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss) * All 4 band members, Gene is sporting the Skull shirt
  • KISS Debut Album 3D Vinyl (The band from that famous black cover and the glowing makeup.
  • KISS Destroyer 3D Vinyl – The most aggressive 3D Vinyl design to date sculpting all 4 characters in the illustrative style of Ken Kelly’s famous cover painting.
  • KISS ON Tour Road Case and Logo Stage Sign – The distressed Road case hold a banner from the Alive photo shoot by Fin Costello and the lighted sign used by the band thru the Alive era.
  • KISS Rock Iconz 2021 – #staytuned

“HEY HO…SOLD OUT!” – Johnny Ramone Rock Iconz Ltd. Edition Statue

“HEY HO…SOLD OUT!” .Always a bitter sweet day when on of  the Rock Iconz ® comes to the end of the production and is SOLD OUT. Johnny Ramone’s Rock Iconz Limited Edition Statue is gone as of today…never to return. As you know if you have followed KnuckleBonz over the past 18 years, we have never re-released a Rock Iconz, 3D Vinyl® or On Tour® Ltd. Edition Collectible once it is gone.

This production was difficult with multiple sculptors working to get things just right on the Punk Rock Titan Johnny Ramone. We worked directly with Linda Ramone, Johnny’s widow on many revisions. We got to talk about Johnny, the state of music in general and a lot about baseball. Johnny was a huge baseball and NY Yankees fan. We are not, so that was a source of some good natured shit-giving. We learned that Johnny Ramone and George Thorogood, both huge baseball guys, had a beef that lasted for a few years over their baseball fandom. All ended up ok. All were all really happy with the final production.

A number of Rock Iconz will have similar fates this week. 3 other Rock Iconz are now gone and have moved to the SOLD OUT KNuckleBonz Hall of Fame. #staytuned here for updates on that.

April 1st – A Bitter Sweet Day in AC/DC History

April 1st is a bitter sweet day in AC/DC history and it has nothing to do with April Fools. It’s the day the band officially announced Brian Johnson as their new singer to replace Bon Scott after his tragic passing.

Brian may have been somehow destined for the AC/DC gig by Bon Scott himself. Before joining AC/DC, Bon was with his Aussie group, “Fang” doing a “Hail Mary” tour in the UK. This was a last chance for this struggling outfit and they opened for a moderately successful glam-rock group called “Geordie.” The singer was none other than Brian Johnson. Brian was actually sick during their set with a stomach ailment that had him drop to his side in pain during a couple numbers. Bon thought it was part of the performance and mentioned it to Angus Young and Malcolm Young some time later.  That mention got Brian on the audition list when AC/DC has decided to carry on and look for a replacement for Bon. The rest we now know is history.  AC/DC “Back in Black” was released later than year in July and the band was on their mega-stadium headliner trajectory that continues to this day.

Pictured in our blog is Angus Young atop Brian’s shoulders from circa 1980 in our AC/DC Rock Iconz Limited Edition Statue design. Urban legend is that Bon was inspired to do this during the AC/DC shows because of seeing Brian pull this off in the Geordie live show. Brian would have to weigh in on what’s the real story there. The statue is in full production and tracking toward a Fall 2021 ship date.
