Our inventory is in place for Metallica James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo Rock Iconz and begins shipping to all fans this coming Monday.

We have months of pre-sales and Covid-Delays and so please be patient. Pre-Orders will ship out in the order they were received. You will get an email when your order ships. Calling or emailing costumer service will not expedite your orders ship date or time slot…thx in advance on that.

The Artistry of Dave Brockie (A.K.A. Oderus Urungus of GWAR)

On this day in 2014, we lost Dave Brockie, better known as Oderus Urungus of Gwar. RIP Head Master Scumdog!

Thought we would share a shot from the KnuckleBonz studio this AM. One of the KnuckleBonz founders actually went to High School with Dave and was fortunate to work w/ GWAR on a couple of projects. Brockie was many things, super creative, super intelligent, super nice, super hilarious and a superfan of his beloved Washington Redskins, DOH! Washington football team.  Would have been fun to hear the Oderus take on that…

This pic is of Dave’s, Oderus Urungus GWAR mask he sculpted and cast for us in 2001. Note the eye sockets and mouth area are still intact. This is how it would come out of the hand-made plaster mold. Dave asked us of we wanted him to set it up like he would for stage wear cutting these areas out and we said, NO WAY!. What you see is a little more Dave Brockie and a little less on the “Intergalactic Hulking War Machine” that was frontman of Gwar Oderus Urungus.

Number of the Beast Anniversary – The 2nd coming of Iron Maiden’s Eddie

In 1982, after the moderate success of their debut album “Killers,” Iron Maiden took a big chance, hiring a new singer and frontman, Bruce Dickinson. Uhh, things worked out pretty well for Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Clive Burr and Dickinson as Iron Maiden “Number of the Beast” cracked the Top 10 UK charts and got global radio play with the single “Run to the Hills.”

This was the 2nd time Eddie, Iron Maiden’s mascot, was summoned to grace an album cover, and it remains one of the most enduring images for the band. The exaggerated perspective of Eddie and muted colors of the sky are set off by the fantastic flames that dance around Eddie and the scarlet devil at his feat.

It’s just a matter of time before KnuckleBonz and the Iron Maiden camp get together…hang in there Superfans.

“Far Beyond Anniversary” – Pantera Far Beyond Driven Album for 3D Vinyl

On this day in 1994 Pantera showed the music world that metal was not just a “sub-genre”, but was #1 in music. Pantera’s  “Far Beyond Driven” became the 1st true heavy metal record to debut in the US. What’s super impressive is that Phillip Anselmo, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul Abbott and Rex Brown took no steps backwards to achieve this commercial success. They actually turned up the heaviness…I’m Broken!!!

This album art proved a real challenge for our 3D Vinyl Limited Edition Statue Series. We decided to stray for the tradition 12×12 album oriented format and created a hybrid that brings the great cover photographic treatment to a desk or shelf mount display. Celebrating KISS Destroyer 45 Years – Paul Stanley “Bob Ezrin was the Key”

Heard a recent interview with KISS Paul Stanley on Sirius/XM Radio and he was talking about the pressure on KISS to follow up on the massive success of KISS “Alive.” Another live record was not on the table. KISS Alive was basically a “best of” record with no new material. KISS Alive featured tracks from the first 3 studio albums, KISS “Debut” , KISS “Dressed to Kill” and KISS “Hotter Than Hell.” None had these had achieved any radio foothold. KISS had built their loyal following strictly thru 1975 on their amazing live performances. Speaking with Sirius/XM, Paul Stanley talked about the need for follow up success in the studio. Without it, it was easy to imagine Alive  being the high water mark for the band. An unsuccessful follow up, could have damaged the bands rep beyond repair. It was at the suggestion of KISS manger Bill Aucoin, that they bring in Bob Ezrin to produce the new album which we now know as KISS “Destroyer.” Aucoin was not simply goin on a hunch. Bob Ezrin can be closely tied to the success of the original Alice Cooper band and albums like “Billion Dollar Banaies and “Schools Out.” Also throw in the Aerosmith’s classic “Get Your Wings”. All done prior to 1976. Ezrin pushed the Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss to new studio heights. 45 years later, we celebrate was is arguably the best studio effort from KISS…drop the needle on this rock classic today…

KISS Destroyer 45 Year Anniversary – KnuckleBonz 3D Vinyl Series “Toughest Assignment”

The KnuckleBonz® 3D Vinyl® Series has been in production for over 3-years now for those Superfans worldwide that want to celebrate the great album art of the last 50 years in 3D. When we decided to produce KISS Destroyer for the series we knew we had a touch task ahead. We first had to sculpt the KISS band Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehly and Peter Criss in the style of the great fantasy artist Ken Kelly. That was quite a task alone, but add the complexity of  having (4) full statues in a single collectible. This had to be done 1976 times in the limited edition for a price that fans could still reasonably afford.  All of us were really happy with the result back in 2018.

KISS Destroyer is the high water mark for the original line up in the studio and produced some of the bands most iconic songs. “Detroit Rock City” “Flaming Youth” Shout It Out Loud”  and “Beth” are staples for the KISS live shows today.

For sure KnuckleBonz collectibles are not for everyone, and not meant to be. 3D Vinyl, Rock Iconz® and On Tour® collectible are expensive to create and license. We a limited edition is SOLD OUT, only a few thousand Superfans worldwide participate.

Music You Can “See” – The Great Album Cover Artists and Designers of Rock

Not all heroes in the the KnuckleBonz Rock Iconz®, 3D Vinyl® and On Tour™ and On Tour Series played an instrument. The paint brush and camera lens also made music for all of us when wielded  by the great album cover artist and designers.

Before the digital age of music, Album and Poster art was and essential part of the music Superfan experience.  It the same flag many of us still fly today on the art we have in the house or the clothes we wear. Can you imagine  Pink Floyd’s legacy with the designs of Storm Thorgerson? The “Dark Side of the Moon” Prism, all of the “Wish You Were Here” “Hand Shakes” the “Delicate Sound of Thunder” “Lightbulb Man.” Aubrey Powell founded the great Hypgnosis (In Collaboration w/ Storm Thorgerson) and gave us classic Led Zeppelin cover art from “Houses of the Holy” and .  Could we ever  separate Pink Floyd “The Wall” from the illustrator and cartoonist Gerald Scarfe? We think not. So many of the great bands we love are so closely tied to the great artists that were associated with their album releases. Roger Dean defined the band “Yes” with unbelievable illustration and graphic design that almost let you here the albums before you dropped the needle. Many of us discovered the fantasy art master Frank Frazetta, from the album art of Molly Hatchet before we ever heard of “Conan the Barbarian” The list goes on. Can you imagine Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow without the “Rainbow Raising” cover painting of Ken Kelly? Oh yes, what we owe the KISS Destroyer cover to him as well…

For us, these images are as  as important as the music that plays when you drop the needle. It’s an essential part of why we are in our 18th year here at KnuckleBonz.

Metallica’s Jason Newsted – Have a Voivod Birthday!

Jason Newsted of Metallica fame is celebrating a birthday today. As we all know, Jason famously left Metallica at a peak and went on to do some really cool work with Ozzy Osbourne, a revitalization of Voivod and Echobrain.

We are currently working with Metallica on a Rock Icons Limited Edition Statue Set for the present lineup of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. We have a multi-year product plan with the band and hope to be able to create something from every era before we are done in the Rock Iconz, 3D Vinyl and On Tour Collector Series. Some from the “And Justice or All” album would be cool. That’s still on of fav records here at the KnuckleBonz studio and we drop the needle on that bad boy often…

The MISFITS – The Rare band we all agree on..

From the advent of the music industry, the bands we listen to and revere  defined us in our formative years. We paired off into groups that gravitated to musical genres. Pop music always had the largest following with fans that may or may not be passionate. As you descend into other genres, fandom becomes more intense and vital to who you were, and are. Punk and Metal would most often square off and choose sides with an occasional cross over. However, there are a few bands that transcend musical genres, and even pop culture. Such is the case with The Misfits. From humble beginnings in Lodi NJ, Jerry Only and all the various lineups have had something for all. From original singer Glen Danzig, thru the more metal releases with Michale Graves, the following of the band has been among the most loyal in music. The formation of The Misfits established the Horror/Core/Punks, but heavy metal too really dug things right off. Cliff Burton of Metallica flew the Misfits flag on-stage with the  Fiend skull tee-shirt on stage at Day at The Green, Oakland 1985. His arm was also tatted with The Fiend. With the flick of the wrist the band can re-unite today and sell out arenas anywhere in the world. They are a rarity…something all camps enjoy and agree on as cool and important.

Yesterday marked the anniversary of the 1st Full length Misfits album release, “Walk Among Us.” Album “American Psycho” and the “Dig Up Here Bones” track is still a fav here at KnuckleBonz. Relive or discover some Misfits today…

29 Years since the Pantera “Vulgar Display of Power” Release – 3D Vinyl Sale Today ONLY !

Hard to believe it’s been 29 years since Pantera dropped “Vulgar Display of Power” on us. We remember the heavy metal scene struggling with it’s identity at that time, with some of the heavier bands embracing the grunge or “alternative” brands. The Cowboys from Hell where having none of that and were flying the metal and power groove flags high. From the opening riff on “Mouth of War” to the heavy flow of the final track “Hollow”, this record was an instant classic.  A perfect record, that has happened only a few times in hard rock/heavy metal history. The amazing musicianship of Phillip Anslemo, Rex Brown,  Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott was on full display.  But, the meaning of these songs went further than many metal tracks. It hard to imagine how relevant some lyrical lines would still be today “Be Yourself, By Yourself, Stay Away from Me!” Can the world today be summed up any better?
