Pink Floyd Live Mirror Ball “Wish You Were There”

As far back as 1975, Pink Floyd began a live tradition of their completely uniquely take on the “Mirror Ball”. The circular projection screen was in place, and to add to the live light show effects, the flower themed mirror ball was introduced. This is so Pink Floyd. It took on several forms all the way to the amazing live spectacle in 1994 for the Pink Floyd stadium tour in 1994 in support of the album “Division Bell.” The Floyd line up was David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. The Floyd acrimony with Roger Waters was at it’s zenith.

Check out these live shots of this legendary “On Tour” live stage props. These still still shots are from the 1975  Wish You Were Hear,  1977 Animals and 1994 tours.

This live video of from 1994 Division Bell Tour. The Huge mirror ball morphed into a flower bloom during the performance of Comfortably Numb. Enjoy…”Wish You Were There”

Pantera Album “Far Beyond Driven” – The Day It Ruled the Music World

This week in 1994, Pantera’s “Far Beyond Driven” shocked the music world by debuting at #1 on the Billboard Charts. This was no real surprise to metal music fandom, but it did jolt the popular music world. It was the 1st time a metal record had debuted in the charts at top slot. Even more amazing, is that Phillip Anselmo, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown had not taken step back on the aggression meter to achieve mass market success. Quite the opposite. The band had ratcheted things up a notch from  of “Vulgar Display of Power” to deliver something even more brutal.

We have honored this Pantera heavy metal masterpiece in our 3D Vinyl® Limited Edition Collector Series. 3D Vinyl brings the great album art to life in limited edition statues. Each piece is hand cast and detailed and ships with a hand numbered certificate of authenticity. All KnuckleBonz® work is officially licensed. Limited to only 1994, the statue is a desktop mount design. Dimension at 7″ Wide X 8.5″ Deep X 8″ Tall.

Production is complete and these statues have arrived at the US ports and are gong thru customs now. Hope to be ship later in April.

Boogie Rock – Underrated to This Day

Just saw some studio footage of Grand Funk Railroad in the studio making the Multi-Platinum “We’re an American Band” album and it struck me how underrated the “Boogie Rock” bands are today. You know Mark Farner, Don Brewer and Mel Schacher SOLD OUT Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles for their 1971 concert. In a live setting, there’s no greater music than a set from bands like Foghat or ZZ Top. Even going further back to Bachman-Turner-Overdrive, drop the needle on the “Not Fragile” track. It’s still so heavy, but in that era…forgeddaboudit!  While labels fractured this music further with the “southern rock” label ect, it was still about great live music that made you want to stomp your feat. Even Angus Young described the early AC/DC days as being a “dance band.” Angus has said, “if people didn’t dance, they didn’t drink beer, and if they didn’t drink beer, you didn’t get invited back to play at that place.” It’s that simple.

Check out some of these great Boogie Rock Bands today like …Black Oak Arkansas, Brownsville Station, Humble Pie and Montrose with the great Ronnie Montrose. Yuh here us Sammy Hagar?

Van Halen “Women and Children First” Dropped On This Day in 1980

This was Van Halen’s 3rd studio release and they were now firmly atop the arena rock scene. Recorded in only 2 weeks, this record got lots of airplay, but take some time today to drop the needle on a couple of tracks. “Everybody Wants Some!!” is a fav here at KnuckleBonz. The intro shows off Eddie Van Halen’s effects wizardry and subtlety before the entire band comes in at 1:09 with the opening riff. No better way to kick off a weekend. Also too, check out a somewhat unheralded track  that starts off Side 2, “Tora Tora.” The EVH effects mastery is on display again but there is a ominous heaviness to this song that is a little “Un-Halen-like”. Eddie plays an imposing trill that Tony Iommi would be proud of.

By this time Eddie’s playing is getting  wide praise across the music industry with Rolling Stone making Hendrix comparisons. Thankfully they state that Eddie Van Halen “is no clone” which any Van Halen fans knows he was not. Rolling Stone had a bad habit of hating on bands all of us dug. Glad they got this one right.

Drop the needle on this classic this weekend.

The Artistry of Dave Brockie (A.K.A. Oderus Urungus of GWAR)

On this day in 2014, we lost Dave Brockie, better known as Oderus Urungus of Gwar. RIP Head Master Scumdog!

Thought we would share a shot from the KnuckleBonz studio this AM. One of the KnuckleBonz founders actually went to High School with Dave and was fortunate to work w/ GWAR on a couple of projects. Brockie was many things, super creative, super intelligent, super nice, super hilarious and a superfan of his beloved Washington Redskins, DOH! Washington football team.  Would have been fun to hear the Oderus take on that…

This pic is of Dave’s, Oderus Urungus GWAR mask he sculpted and cast for us in 2001. Note the eye sockets and mouth area are still intact. This is how it would come out of the hand-made plaster mold. Dave asked us of we wanted him to set it up like he would for stage wear cutting these areas out and we said, NO WAY!. What you see is a little more Dave Brockie and a little less on the “Intergalactic Hulking War Machine” that was frontman of Gwar Oderus Urungus.

Here’s’a great video  interview with Dave not long before we lost him…check it out:

Number of the Beast Anniversary – The 2nd coming of Iron Maiden’s Eddie

In 1982, after the moderate success of their debut album “Killers,” Iron Maiden took a big chance, hiring a new singer and frontman, Bruce Dickinson. Uhh, things worked out pretty well for Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Clive Burr and Dickinson as Iron Maiden “Number of the Beast” cracked the Top 10 UK charts and got global radio play with the single “Run to the Hills.”

This was the 2nd time Eddie, Iron Maiden’s mascot, was summoned to grace an album cover, and it remains one of the most enduring images for the band. The exaggerated perspective of Eddie and muted colors of the sky are set off by the fantastic flames that dance around Eddie and the scarlet devil at his feat.

It’s just a matter of time before KnuckleBonz and the Iron Maiden camp get together…hang in there Superfans.

“Far Beyond Anniversary” – Pantera Far Beyond Driven Album for 3D Vinyl

On this day in 1994 Pantera showed the music world that metal was not just a “sub-genre”, but was #1 in music. Pantera’s  “Far Beyond Driven” became the 1st true heavy metal record to debut in the US. What’s super impressive is that Phillip Anselmo, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul Abbott and Rex Brown took no steps backwards to achieve this commercial success. They actually turned up the heaviness…I’m Broken!!!

This album art proved a real challenge for our 3D Vinyl Limited Edition Statue Series. We decided to stray for the tradition 12×12 album oriented format and created a hybrid that brings the great cover photographic treatment to a desk or shelf mount display. This KnuckleBonz collectible is still in pre-order and super hot. Check it out here to be one of only 1994 fans that will own this piece of metal music art: https://knucklebonz.com/product-category/pantera/

The 1st wave for Pantera Far Beyond Driven is finished and in route to our US warehouse. We expect it to hit the US ports in April and then must clear customs to begin the short truck ride to the KnuckleBonz warehouse. Stay tuned here for update…DOn;t Miss Out!
